One of Hollywood’s most successful and well-loved filmmakers, Steven Spielberg, has paired with the world’s biggest tech giant, Apple, to revive Amazing Stories.
If you’re an ‘80s kid, you probably remember Amazing Stories, it was very similar to The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits. Done-in-one stories centered in sci-fi, horror and thriller genre plots. With modern day success of shows like Channel Zero and Black Mirror there’s no better time for Amazing Stories to come back.
As reported in The Wall Street Journal, Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment is partnering with Apple and NBC Universal’s TV production unit to create a new version of Amazing Stories. Apple’s been halfheartedly trying to get into producing its own original video content, with mixed results. But the Journal quotes an exec at Apple as saying each episode of the new Amazing Stories will have a budget of more than $5 million dollars, so maybe they’re finally getting serious about the new venture.
I definitely remember watching Amazing Stories, most memorable for me was the gunner stuck in the belly gun of a WWII bomber with no landing gear. Turns out the full episode is hanging out on Vimeo:
