I’m a big fan of Black Mirror and am looking forward to its fourth season which is coming out in the near future. But why do I like it? It is an incredibly dark show and every episode is a compilation of awful things happening to people that don’t necessarily deserve them. What’s appealing about tragedy?

As the video explains, centuries ago, Aristotle described tragedy:

A tragedy is the imitation of an action that is serious and also, as having magnitude, complete in itself; in appropriate and pleasurable language; … in a dramatic rather than narrative form; with incidents arousing pity and fear, wherewith to accomplish a catharsis of these emotions.

A good start, but as the video covers, that’s not the whole story of why we love Black Mirror.
